Toon captain Alan Shearer has been banned for two matches for violent conduct by UEFA following his clash with Inter Milan's Fabio Cannavaro in this week's Champions League match. The Toon have until midnight Monday to appeal.

Toon Young striker Richard Offiong has joined Darlington on loan for a month.

Coventry are showing interest in taking Carl Cort on loan.

Magpies then take on Barcelona in Spain on Tuesday December 10, and follow that up with a trip to Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday February 18.

The German outfit make the return trip to Tyneside on Wednesday February 26, then The Magpies fly to Milan on Tuesday March 11 before wrapping up the group with Barcelona at home on Wednesday March 19.

This was all in vain as Taylor scored 2 and Andy Griffin scoring an own goal which, gave the home side a deserved three points.
